AGUNG GEDE is not only a talented and passionate chef, he is also a true culinary artist. Since the opening of the St. Regis Bali Resort in 2008, Chef Agung has lead and advanced the growth of its food programmes, especially their signature restaurant Kayuputi, that has been recognised as the pinnacle of fine dining in Bali. Starting his career after completing his Diploma in Food and Beverage Division of Hotel and Tourism Academy in 1994, Chef Agung Gede has worked with numerous five star resorts in the country — including ones under Orient Express Hotels, Starwood Hotels, and eventually Marriott International. Chef Agung continuously strives to achieve a simple yet elegant approach in curating his dishes. Masterfully, he comes up with ingredients combined to create a unique gastronomy experience for the discerning food connoisseurs. Before working on his ideas and inspiration in
the kitchen, he pours them onto sketches of food composition, before transforming it into a plate of gourmet art. Among the awards and accolades he has achieved are the Bocuse d’Or Indonesia 2011 and 2013, Master Chef Category on HAPA Awards 2013, Best Chef Manager at Bali Salon Culinaire 2014, ASEAN Executive Chef of the Year in 2016, Chef Hotelier of the year from Hotelier Awards 2016. His most recent achievement is to be recognized as Champion of Masters 2019, where he represented Indonesia with his St. Regis Bali Resort team, to compete live on television against sixteen other professional culinary teams from ten countries. For honing and continuing to perfect his craft to the best of his abilities, for his amazing creativity and mastery of flavor, the Bali’s Best Eats Chef of the Year is Agung Gede.
