Best of both worlds
A PERENNIAL FAVORITE of the city’s expatriate community since opening its doors in 2002, KOI Kemang offers an inexpensive but well-crafted selection of beers, spirits and wines, coupled with an excellent menu of European dishes.
The kitchen, under the leadership Belgian transplant Chef Benoit Claeys, offers surprisingly diverse dishes, with standouts including snails in puff pastry, a Belgian beef-cheek stew-cooked with beer and a dried-shiitake ravioli.
All pasta is freshly made, to boot. The space, which doubles as an art gallery, is trendily simple, rather than fancy, making KOI Kemang a perfect place to meet for happy hour, or indeed any hour.
The ceiling is exposed, track lighting is copious and the space is full of comfortable cushioned rattan pieces. A smaller bar with brick-lined walls offers a more intimate experience, with postage-stamp bistro tables and tall barstools.(cr)
