Prohibition-era decadence in the heart of Seminyak
A REMINISCENT OF the glamorous Prohibition era of the 1920s, The Plantation Grill flaunts twenties-style luxury, with marble finishes, a vaulted double-height ceiling and huge glass windows looking out to the sea. Patrons are introduced to the space through a beautiful spiral staircase, which leads them down to luxurious leather booths. The entertainment also adds to the classic theme, taking guests back to a different era - jazzy tunes, soprano singers, and a saxophone solo take centre stage on different nights. Led by Chef Quirijn Rademaker, better known as Chef Quib, The Plantation Grill’s specialty is dry aged, exclusively sourced and imported meat, and line-caught sustainable seafood cooked over custom made coal and
wood grills, and wood-fired ovens. The impressive medley of dishes on their menu includes classics, such as Waldorf salad, lobster Thermidor, salmon gravlax, and mille-feuille. And accompanying the food is a fine selection 250 varieties of wine from all over the world. Chef Quib went to a traditional cooking school in Belgium, and mainly looks up to the Larousse Gastronomique, a gastronomy encyclopedia that first came out in the late 1920s. The chef is a natural at classic fine dining. His idea is rather straight-forward, a starter, a main, and a dessert, instead of a five to seven degustation menu - and cooking dishes that are rarely served in upscale restaurants and bringing those back with timeless craftsmanship done right.
